Hydrocortisone 1% w/w cream is a topical cream that provides fast and effective relief from itching.

It is commonly used for sufferers of eczema, dermatitis, itchy insect bites and other common skin conditions.

Hydrocortisone belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids. They work by calming down the inflammation that occurs during certain skin conditions or reactions.

Always use Hydrocortisone 1% cream exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you.

For application to the skin, gently apply a thin layer 2-3 times per day.

Like all medicines, Hydrocortisone 1% cream may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Common side effects include:

Change of skin colour
An increased amount of hair where the cream has been applied
Adverse effects on adrenal gland function if used over a long period of time
Thinning skin, wider blood vessels, stretch marks
Blurred vision
Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.

If the product is used continuously for a prolonged period of time, a withdrawal reaction can occur upon stopping treatment. This can include the following symptoms:

Redness of the skin that can extend beyond the treated area
Burning or stinging sensation
Intense itching
Peeling of the skin
Oozing
Open sores
