Prescription-only medicine belonging to a group called angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs).
Used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and heart failure.
Works by relaxing and widening blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure and makes it easier for the heart to pump blood around the body.
Take once daily, usually at the same time each day.
Swallow the tablet whole with a drink of water.
Can be taken with or without food.
Doses often start low and may be increased gradually by your doctor.
Common side effects include feeling dizzy or lightheaded, headaches, throat or respiratory infections, and back pain.
Can cause low blood pressure (hypotension) or changes in kidney function, especially when starting treatment.
Serious side effects include swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema), severe dizziness, or fainting. Seek immediate medical attention if these occur.
Do not take if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, as it can cause harm to an unborn baby.
Regular blood tests are needed to check your kidney function and potassium levels while taking this medication.
Avoid taking potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium without consulting your doctor.
Be careful when standing up quickly from a sitting or lying position to prevent dizziness.
Avoid driving or operating machinery if the tablets make you feel dizzy.
