Skinoren (azelaic acid 20% cream) is a topical treatment for mild-to-moderate acne and papulopustular rosacea that works by reducing acne-causing bacteria, normalizing skin cell turnover, calming inflammation, and helping fade post-inflammatory dark spots. Apply a thin layer to clean, dry affected areas twice daily; visible improvement is often seen within 4–8 weeks with best results by 12 weeks. Generally well tolerated, some users may experience mild local irritation (stinging, dryness, redness, peeling); avoid contact with eyes, lips and broken skin. Consult your healthcare professional before use if pregnant, breastfeeding, or combining with other topical treatments. Store at room temperature and keep the container closed.
Recommended dosage and use for Skinoren (azelaic acid 20% cream):
- Adults and adolescents (12 years and older): apply a thin layer to the clean, dry affected areas twice daily (morning and evening). Gently rub in until absorbed.
- Amount: use enough to cover the affected area; typically a pea-sized amount per small area (face), more for larger areas—avoid heavy or thick application.
- Duration: expect visible improvement in 4–8 weeks; continue up to ~12 weeks for full effect as advised by your prescriber. Reassess with your healthcare professional if no improvement after 12 weeks.
- Application tips: wash and dry skin before use; avoid eyes, lips, nostrils, and other mucous membranes; do not apply to broken or eczematous skin. Wash hands after applying unless treating the hands.
- Combining with other topicals: may increase irritation when used with retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, or acids—either use at different times (e.g., azelaic acid in morning and retinoid at night) or follow prescriber instructions.
- Missed dose: apply as soon as remembered unless it’s near the time for the next dose; do not double up.
