What the service covers
The Emergency Supply Service is for medication you have been prescribed before and have run out of. It is not a route to a new or first-time prescription.

You have run out of a repeat medication and cannot get a GP appointment in time
You are away from home or travelling and left your medication behind
You can provide a copy of a previous prescription, or other evidence you have been prescribed it before
You are a UK resident, or a visitor to the UK

You need urgent or emergency medical care — contact NHS 111, or 999 in an emergency
You cannot supply evidence of previous supply
Some medicines cannot be supplied this way — the prescriber will tell you during your assessment
The prescriber judges the request clinically unsuitable, in which case your fee is refunded

Once your request is approved, the prescription is sent electronically to the pharmacy you chose, and they will contact you when it is ready. The optional While You Wait service (£3) is available Monday to Saturday excluding bank holidays, subject to pharmacy staff availability and cut-off times. Requests needing a follow-up call from a clinician take longer.
It is the consultation fee for a prescriber to review your request — £15 for one medication, plus £5 for each additional one. The medication itself is not included, and its price depends on which pharmacy you choose. If your request is not approved, the consultation fee is refunded in full.
A copy of your previous prescription, or other evidence that the medicine has been prescribed to you before — a repeat slip or pharmacy label, for example. You can photograph it during the assessment.
